Lean & Hungry Theater's production of Sophocles' Oedipus The King was broadcast LIVE on WAMU 88.5 on
Sunday, November 16th at 6pm from THEARC in SE Washington D.C.
The people of the African country of “Thebes” are dying from plague. Desperate to help
his people, Oedipus sends his brother-in-law, Creon, to the Oracle to find out why.
Creon learns the plague is retribution from the gods for the murder of the former King Laius. With the
help of a Soothsayer, Oedipus follows a long and twisted path to find the old King’s
murderer. When Oedipus realizes that in fact, he inadvertently killed the King,
things only grow more confusing, more disturbing, and more complicated. Oedipus
the King is a tale by Sophocles about fate, free will, and a hero’s tragic flaw.
